Deck: Everyday Witch Tarot by Deborah Blake and Elisabeth Alba

The witch in the Two of Pentacles is perfectly balanced on her seesaw, with a single coin in each hand. It probably took her some time to achieve her perfect state of equilibrium but - like everything else in life - it is only temporary. The cat doesn’t weigh much but when it lands beside her, it will surely be enough to throw her off balance - at best she’ll wobble, but perhaps she will fall flat on her face to protect her coins.

Either way, there will be lessons in it for her and, as twos usually indicate that it's time to make a choice or to put something into action, the cat is simply speeding up the process - change is on the way.
Life will give you whatever experience is the most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. - Eckhart Tolle
At first glance, the Hanged Man appears to be a contrasting card - he’s staying exactly where he is. With his hands and feet firmly chained up, there will be no movement until he is good and ready. But what is he hanging around for? Just like Odin who hung himself from the World Tree (Yggdrasil), this is surely an act of self-sacrifice. In becoming suspended, he has chosen to take time away from everyday life to look within. He knows that the answer is already inside him. The key in his hand is not only to those padlocks, he quite literally holds 'The Key'
The power is in you. The answer is in you. And you are the answer to all your searches: You are the goal. It's never outside. - Eckhart Tolle
Here's the interesting thing. The advice I'd typically take from the Two of Pentacles is to take things slow and to pay attention to what's really going on. Not so different to the Hanged Man after all! Take another look at the balancing witch - in the background, there is a vast body of water. Above her head, a lemniscate encompasses both of her hands and coins. These point to the need for ongoing flexibility and the capacity to 'go with the flow' in order to maintain balance as she deals with the changes that life (or her cat) throw at her. Good advice as we head towards a new week.
