Deck: Everyday Witch Tarot by Deborah Blake and Elisabeth Alba

According to Deepak Chopra, the Law of Giving and Receiving "is based on the fact that everything in the universe operates through dynamic exchange. Every relationship is one of give and take because giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe. If we stop the flow of energy, we interfere with nature’s intelligence. We must give and receive in order to keep money, or anything we want, circulating in our lives."

Whether it's your time, money, expertise or something as simple as a bunch of wild flowers or a compliment, giving to others can be a beautiful act of service, a way to show appreciation, and to spread love and happiness. As if that wasn't enough, when you give to others without 'strings' or expectations, the law of karma ensures that you also receive. Intention is the key factor:
When the act of giving is joyful, when it is unconditional and from the heart, then the energy behind the giving increases many times over. - Deepak Chopra
In today's anchor card we see the simple act of giving and receiving. The people and cats all look happy with the exchange in the Six of Cups. However the other cards illustrate what can potentially happen when there is a lack of balance. Chopra explains that "if we give grudgingly, there is no energy behind that giving. If we feel we have lost something through the act of giving, then the gift is not truly given and will not cause increase."

The Ten of Wands ('be careful what you wish for') and Nine of Swords ('woe is me') both illustrate the result of going against karmic law - a heavy and uncomfortable burden being carried (alone) which results in anxiety / sleepless nights!

If you're someone who is always doing for and giving to others without accepting help from anyone else, you will be all too familiar with this feeling. In order to be in the 'flow of energy' Chopra talks about, it's necessary to either give up some of the burden or to accept more yourself! Put simply, martyrdom doesn't work.

So the questions to ask yourself today are:
- How are you being of service to others?
- What are your motives / intentions?
- Are you in the 'karmic' flow of giving and receiving? If there any element of rancour in your actions, you would be wise to eliminate it!
