25/01/18 - Interconnection, interdependence, and love

Deck: The Wild Unknown by Kim Krans

The Lovers fly together in perfect harmony. Their companionship has an ease and fluidity to it - flying alongside one another looks effortless - there is no sign of competition or clinging, just closeness and interconnection (a mutual connection).
You must love in such a way that the person you love feels free. - Thich Nhat Hanh
The Four of Pentacles illustrates a similar connection, but takes it further - stressing the importance of balance, flow and interdependence - (the dependence of two or more people or things on each other). The pentacles are spaced out like a system of bobbins or cogs and the lines that connect them look alive with colour - they are vibrant and full of energy.

Look at the way the pieces are linked. Each individual element is required for the entire system to work. There is a perfect but delicate balance - the things that connect the pentacles (the four coloured 'bands') also hold them in place. There is a feeling of stability and order. To maintain this 'perfect flow' there must be just the right amount of tension in the bands - too little and the pieces will fall apart. Too much, and they will snap and fall apart anyway!

When viewed in this way, it's clear to see how these cards might apply to relationships (and not just those of the romantic variety). When you have a deep understanding with someone, it's vital that the connection between you is sufficient to hold things together, but not so tight as to cause strangulation! When you cling to something too tightly, you restrict the flow and hinder all capacity for enjoyment for yourself and others.
Hold tenderly that which you cherish, for it is precious and a tight grip may crush it. Do not let the fear of dropping it cause you to hold it too tightly the chances are, it's holding you too. - Bob Alberti
How does this compare to the relationships in your life? Are you experiencing the ease and harmony of genuine love or is there an imbalance somewhere? What needs to be adjusted?
