05/01/18 - Feel the Heat?

To start a fire, three things are required - heat, fuel, and oxygen. The Ace of Wands represents the "heat" or initial spark from which, depending on the circumstances, so many things are possible - from candlelight to a blazing inferno.

Fire is the element of passion and creativity, so the spark most often appears in the form of inspiration and creative urge. It's the impulse to start something new and exciting (symbolised by the new shoots sprouting from the wand itself) and it may feel as though the idea has come from nowhere.

In her book 'Big Magic', Elizabeth Gilbert describes her belief that ideas are living things - energetic life forms that interact with us.
Ideas have no material body, but they do have consciousness, and they most certainly have will. Ideas are driven by a single impulse: to be made manifest. And the only way an idea can be made manifest in our world is through collaboration with a human partner. It is only through the human's efforts that an idea can be escorted out of the ether and into the realm of the actual... When an idea thinks it has found somebody - say, you - who might be able to bring it into the world, the idea will pay you a visit. It will try to get your attention.
The secret is to notice it (most people don’t), to add fuel, and to fan the flames before the spark goes out. In Gilbert's words "inspiration will always try its best to work with you - but if you are not ready or available, it may indeed choose to leave you and search for a different human collaborator."

Listen carefully. What inspiration is rising in you now? How can you show it that you're willing and available to bring it to life?
